How to properly maintain and upkeep batteries?

Jan 13,2026

Avoid high temperature exposure: High temperature can accelerate the evaporation of electrolyte and aging of active substances inside the battery, shorten its life, and should be placed in a cool and ventilated place. In industrial scenarios, it should be kept away from heat sources (such as furnaces and engine exhaust pipes).

Maintain a suitable working environment
Avoid high temperature exposure: High temperature can accelerate the evaporation of electrolyte and aging of active substances inside the battery, shorten its life, and should be placed in a cool and ventilated place. In industrial scenarios, it should be kept away from heat sources (such as furnaces and engine exhaust pipes).
Prevent low temperature power loss: The capacity of the battery will decrease in low temperature environments, and it is necessary to charge it in a timely manner after discharge to avoid difficulty in charging or plate freezing caused by low temperature.
Keep the environment dry and clean: prevent the battery casing from getting damp and short circuiting, while avoiding dust and oil stains from covering the poles, causing poor contact or corrosion.
Standardize charging operations
Matching charger specifications: It is necessary to use a charger that matches the battery model, voltage, and capacity. It is prohibited to mix different types of chargers (such as using lead-acid chargers to charge lithium batteries), otherwise it may cause overcharging, bulging, and even fire.
Avoid overcharging and undercharging: Overcharging can cause electrolyte boiling and electrode deformation; Undercharging can cause the plates to sulfide and reduce capacity. Following the principle of "shallow charging and shallow discharging", charge the battery promptly when there is 20% -30% remaining power, and turn off the power promptly after it is fully charged.
Control charging current: Prioritize using constant current and constant voltage charging methods. High current fast charging is only suitable for emergency situations, as frequent fast charging can damage the electrode plates.
Regularly inspect the appearance and condition
Check the casing: Check for bulges, cracks, and leakage. If there is leakage, stop using immediately. Industrial batteries also need to check if the casing sealant is aging.
Clean the pole: When oxidation, whitening or green rust appears on the pole, wipe it with a damp cloth and apply a small amount of Vaseline or special rust inhibitor to prevent corrosion from worsening.
Record voltage and capacity: Regularly measure the no-load voltage of the battery with a multimeter and compare it with the factory parameters to determine performance degradation; Industrial scenarios can detect actual capacity through discharge testing.
